NSA Regionals June 12-14, 2009
The Diamonds played some powerful ball and saw some powerful weather this weekend! With two seeding games on Friday night, the Diamonds settled in for a long night, taking on first the West Boynton Lady Bandits and then the Caloosa Cudas, closing down the park close to 11 pm in taking two seeding wins to kick off the weekend. IEven thought the team was down a few players, in the first game, the bats were on fire, with a 9-5 win over the Lady Bandits seeing a triple from Pinto and a home run from Kruempel, with Norton on the mound, and trusty Tropeano behind the plate. Colandreo collected the throws at first and Falcon, Schmeltzer, Novy and Perez were all getting the job done. In the second game, Curtis took over the mound for a 6-1 win featuring a super Suppo smash home run.

On Saturday, the girls got off to a good second inning 2-1 jump over the Wellington Wild until the weather turned wild, sending everyone home for the day. On Sunday, in bracket play, the #2 seeded Diamonds took their first game over the East Boca Blazers 7-4, before falling to the Wellington Wild in their second game.

The girls are pysched up and ready to go to Polk County for the NSA State Tournament on June 26!

Lake Lytal Tournament June 5-6, 2009
The Diamonds faced some tough opponents and some tough weather at Lake Lytal's June Blast the weekend of June 5-6, 2009. On Saturday, the Diamonds had a late game rally but fell to the Jupiter Seahawks in the first game 8-4. Suppo was all about third base, with a great diving catch at third, and a slamming triple in the bottom of the last inning. Norton and Perez were both on the mound and at shortshop, with Kruempel catching, Colandreo at first, Wise at second and Pinto, Falcon and Tropeano holding down the fort in the outfield.  The second game started on time against the Lady Bandits who went on to have the number one seed. Curtis pitched one and a third innings, with Falcon making a great catch in center field before the lightning alarm went off, suspending play. After several hours of "will they or won't they," the weather refused to cooperate and the game was rescheduled to continue at 8 am Sunday morning, with the remaining seeding game cancelled.

On Sunday morning, the players started up again, with Tropeano returning to catching for the first time in weeks, and bringing Nerf in for shortstop, Musinksky at second, Novy in right field and Schmeltzer in left field, where they faced a tough battle against some big bats, but went down 3-0. They repeated the matchup against this tough Lady Bandit team in elimination play, where they went down 8-2.

The Diamonds got some more experience this weekend as they prepare to host the NSA Regionals June 12-14 on their home fields. Come on out and cheer on all the West Boca Diamonds teams at South County Regional next weekend!

Brianna Cox Memorial Tournament 5/31/09

The 12U Diamonds really came together as a team this weekend, having their best tournament yet! The team went 3-2 for the weekend and finished tied for 3rd place out of 8 teams.

On Saturday, with Catcher Tropeano on the DL, Kruempel stepped in behind the plate, and stepped up to the plate with several monster hits and creative slides into home. Pitchers Curtis and Perez handled most of the work from the mound, with Norton playing shortstop and closing out the day on the mound in preperation for her two complete games on Sunday. Colandreo was excited as always to be at first (see below left), Wise let nothing by her at 2B, and Suppo made some killer plays at 3B. Falcon, Musinsky, Pinto and Schmeltzer shagged the flies in the outfield and Nerf and Byman added their big bats to the chorus. The Diamonds beat the Weston Stingerz 8-4, dropped to the Lady Bandits 11-1 then came back to beat the Palm Beach Blizzards 7-1.

On Sunday, the #4 seeded Diamonds got an early start, and playing their best game to date, got revenge on the Lady Bandits with a 4-1 win, advancing in the elimination rounds, where they faced the Wellington Wild. The girls fought a hard battle, but went down 3-1 to the top seed.

After the game, the girls got to talk with the mother of Brianna Cox, in whose memory the tournament was played, who thanked them for being a part of the foundation's tournament. They left with a great appreciation for softball and the importance of family and are ready for next week's battle at Lake Lytal.
